Spyros Paloukis
Spyros Paloukis was born in Edessa in 1980. He studied Informatics in Thesaloniki and American Studies (postgraduate title) in Belgium (University of Antwerp). For his postgraduate dissertation he dealt with photography in combination with literature writing an essay titled: "American Street Photography: Capturing the flux of the street through the eye-view of the urban flaneur". Furthermore, he has studied in the STEREOSIS photography school in Thessaloniki for two years, while he has attended a course in creative writing in the National Book Center (Athens). He has also participated in a photography workshop under world-famous Swedish photographer Anders Petersen.
Spyros has been working as a freelance photographer since 2006, undertaking various projects in Greece and abroad. He has worked as official photographer of the INTERREG II European program for the cross-cultural trail between Greece - FYROM - Bulgaria. In the past he has won awards in various photography competitions (local as well as international), his greatest distinction being the second place in the competition of the European Union CANTABRIA+10, which had "friendship" as its topic.
According to the Athens Photography Center, for the year 2008/09 he was included in the ten best new photographers for Greece, after the presentation of part of his work in International Photography Month (Athens APhF:08 November 2008). Also, his first literary work was included in the list of ten nominated breakthrough authors for publishing year 2008/09 by DIAVAZO magazine. In July 2009 his new album was published, titled EDESSA, which comprises a photographic reconciliation with his birthplace. In general, he is working as a freelance photographer, author, columnist and is the owner and instigator of FATA MORGANA PUBLICATIONS. At this point in time he is writing his new novel and working on the artistic direction for the Album DAYDREAMING: 100 Greeks of Belgium are dreaming of Greece".
