5th Greek BookCrossing Convention
Η μέρα έφτασε!
Friday, 21 May 2010 11:16

Αγαπητό μου ημερολόγιο,
ναι, ναι, ναι!

Salonica2010

Ten days, I tell you!
Tuesday, 11 May 2010 00:28
Dear diary,
I've been running around like crazy doing stuff in order to get everything ready on time, but I'm also terribly happy! 10 days to the convention! No time left and the last details are falling into place, everything is right where I want it. Well, to tell you the truth I keep waiting that some problem will pop up that won't be able to solve and it will ruin everything, but I am an optimistic person, and smart, and modest and I want to believe that it will all be well.

Let me fill you in on the developments, a lot has happened. My photographic competition is ended and the 20 best photos will be shown on the top floor of Cafe Bazaar from the 22nd of May until the 6th of June. On the 21st, the first day of the convention, I will award the 3 winners of the competition, hip, hip, hurrah!

In general, the Program, as I'd said it could happen, has several changes and is now in its final form. I hope. No, that's its final form, that's it. Maybe. Anyway, where was I? The program, yes. Pay some attention to the program, details have been added for the expenses of the participants, I thought that they should have an image of what they will have to spend here.

Yeah, PAOK!

Sorry dear diary, a small intervention, but I'm very happy with my team and it just came. Let  me continue...

I also have addresses and the map and hot spots, no one will get lost. Everything is nice and sorted. I also added more details for the various events, but let me tell you of the 2 most important additions to the program.

3 new writers have been added to Sunday's secret event: Kyriakos Athanasiadis, Konstantinos Gousidis and Vassilis Papatheodorou. So now I've reached 12 authors that I have invited to attend and I will stop. I'm very nervous about how this will go, to be honest. It's a bit different from what the participants are used to, but I think they will have fun.

The other change in the program is the flashmob release that has as a goal to circle the White Tower with books. A nice image, the bookcrosser photographers will be really happy if it works. Everyone should come with many books...

During the past few days, Thessaloniki bookcrossers did several things for me. Imagine, one crazy guy dove and photographed a bookcrossing at 20 meters deep! The workshops that we organized were very successful, we had many edible stuff and they also involved singing, as I heard. Without the help of all the bookcrossers I wouldn't have had time for all this and I thank them from my heart for their help. The goodie bags are almost ready and the participants will like them, I'm sure!

See you at the convention,
Salonica2010

I've got newwws!

Dear Diary,
Right when I didn't have anything to write and and the convention's abeyances wouldn't get sorted out despite my running around, in a few days so much happened that even I can't believe it! I'll begin right away, I don't want to tire you.

The convention is getting shaped bit by bit. To start with, at the Program section there is a draft of what is going to take place in Thessaloniki on May 21 to 24. It is not yet finalized and there is information that might change or new things added, but the participants will have a good initial image.

You won't see many changes from previous conventions. The welcome and goodbye coffee are there, the release walk as well, the food (we are in Thessaloniki, after all!) likewise. Also, I know that bookcrossers are fun types and merrymakers. So I decided to take them dancing. I hope that they will have a good time while in town.

And the open discussion is also here. Its topic this year is "Book and Internet" and its purpose is to promote the issues of copyright and free file sharing, blogs and writing, the medium related to the author and the role of the reader in all the above. I invited Aris Dimokidis, Nikos Karatzas, Sofia Nikolaidou, Alekos Papadopoulos and Giorgos Skampardonis to take part in the discussion.

There is another event on the program, which I'm trying to keep as a surprise for everyone and I hope it will not circulate much from those who already know about it. Many authors will be present and I hope to see everyone, bookcrossers and authors together, to have fun. For this event (that I still haven't decided if I want to give it a name) I have invited: Styliana Galiniki, Aris Dimokidis, Isidoros Zourgos, Apostolos Lykessas, Sotiris Mpampatzimopoulos, Simos & Lena Oflidi, Giannis Palavos, Spyros Paloukis, as well as some others who will be announced soon.

In the Authors submenu you can find the CVs of all the invited authors and the list is expected to grow even more. All apart from 2 live in Thessaloniki and I am very glad that they accepted my invitation. I was impressed by their eagerness to meet and participate in my convention and I as well as my colleages keep talking about how warm they all were with us.

There is another small addition. Tips have been added in the City Guide, where participants can find exactly what the word means, for my city. Places and shops in Thessaloniki that I like and though I would share...

In other news, coffee is now more expensive, PAOK is a champion in our hearts and I'm waiting for Easter to be over. There are several things that need to be done in the last weeks before the opening. However, I am satisfied by the development of preparations and I'm certain taht everyone will have a great time, dear diary.

I should not forget to say to those who want to help with the goodie bags to send me an email or something with what their help will be, so that I can better prepare the goodie bags content.

I'll write soon,
Salonica2010

Time passes
Monday, 08 February 2010 13:33

Dear Diary
I know, I haven't written in too long. But you wouldn't believe how much I had to get done this month! Every time I was about to freak out with worry over a delay, something would come along, things would move forward and I'd feel relaxed once more!

101 days according to my schedule. Almost there. How time passes! I've so much left to do yet, but it's time to reveal stuff, or people will stone me to death! For example, accommodation. I know people are booking or have already booked tickets to get here. All that's left is that they find a place to stay, so no more delays. In Guide, a new subsection Accommodation has been added, where people will find 6 different choices, for every budget - from the filthily rich to the very poor. I want everyone to come to the convention, I wouldn't be able to bear it if they told me "I can't afford to". Reservations are to be made by each one for themselves, but I hope my instructions will be followed in every case and they can contact me for any problem, so I can solve it!

Now for the more relaaaaxed parts: Let's play! Let's start with a game in this site, how about it? In Multimedia, in the Games subsection, a new game has been added, look it up, I won't say more. Hope you enjoy it! Thanks to everyone who gave materials for it. I really wanted to add this and I'm glad I finally got the chance to do so.

Finally, let's play with all the world! A photo contest is ready to go up and running in a special group in Flickr, with "Books in Urban Environment" as its theme. We'll start in a few days. Whether a pro or an amateur, share your photos till the 28th of March, vote for the ones you deem best and get to see your photos exhibited in the opening ceremony for the 5th Greek Convention in Thessaloniki! BookCrossing loves photography and shows it. I'm planning to show this love of mine more, but you'll have to wait for it, can't reveal everything at once!

No time to write anything else. Tough week ahead, many meetings, many decisions, lots of running around! But take a look at the sponsors section, they honour me with their support, so I should honour them too. This is one section that will keep on growing, I tell you!

Kisses and know that when I'll write again, I'll have names of authors attending,

Salonica2010
